Preparing for Spring: A Prenatal Care Checklist for Expecting Moms

Every pregnancy journey is unique, and the season can play a bigger role than many women realize. At Modern OBGYN Care, the leading OB/GYNs in Pembroke Pines, Florida, Dr. Miguel Torres and Dr. Marcela Torres, guide you through every season and stage with compassion and comfort.

Our first blog this month focuses on the spring season that’s now upon us here in South Florida. Here’s our checklist for expecting moms.

Confirm upcoming prenatal visits

At Modern OBGYN Care, we create customized prenatal care plans for each woman. Your plan can change based on the trimester, your symptoms, your baby’s development, and your general health needs.

Reach out to our office to verify your upcoming appointments, and be sure to ask which lab tests, screenings, or ultrasounds you can expect at each visit. This can help you feel prepared and confident going into your visits.

Keep a running question list

Pregnancy causes physical and hormonal changes that can evolve week by week. This can bring up lots of questions. But, as many as 8 in 10 women say they experience “pregnancy brain” or forgetfulness during this time.

Keeping a running question list, whether written by hand or on your phone, can help you stay organized and track those questions. We always welcome your questions during your prenatal visits. Getting those answers can make you feel more in control, whether you’re in the first trimester or giving birth next week.

Reassess your prenatal vitamin routine

The American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists recommends taking prenatal vitamins both before and throughout pregnancy. Your doctor at Modern OBGYN Care will recommend a prenatal vitamin dosage ideal for your needs. Folic acid, iron, vitamin D, and calcium are all crucial, and your doctor may also recommend other supplements during pregnancy.

This recommendation changes based on your health and previous pregnancies. For example, if you’ve had a child with a neural tube defect, you need to take much larger doses of folic acid than you otherwise would. If you experience nausea, constipation, or anemia, we can suggest adjustments or alternatives.

Adopt spring-friendly health habits

Spring weather is already pretty warm here in Florida, and working around those seasonal changes can help make your pregnancy more comfortable. Some spring-friendly health habits to prioritize are:
